Perth community to shine bright under an Albanese Labor Government - MEDIA RELEASE
An Albanese Labor Government will establish the Light Up Perth program, investing in local government projects to see our city live up to its name as the City of Lights.
The $1 million program across the Perth electorate will see investment across five major Perth councils: Perth, Vincent, Bayswater, Stirling and Bassendean.
Street lighting across the City of Bayswater will be upgraded to improve safety and energy efficiency.
The upgrade will see emissions from the lights reduced by up to 50 per cent, while also improving safety across popular spots in Maylands, Bayswater and Morley.
Labor Member for Perth, Patrick Gorman said: “The City of Bayswater have been leaders in Perth for taking local decisions to take strong climate action. The conversion of street lighting to energy saving LEDs will help these moves.”
“This funding will also allow for improved security and safety across the Bayswater community, including in popular nightspots such as Maylands and Bayswater, as well as retail hubs such as Morley.”
The Light Up Perth program will also invest $200,000 in the City of Vincent’s lighting upgrades in Mount Hawthorn, including LED street lights along Scarborough Beach Road, and lighting improvements at Axford Park.
“As a local dad, I know families want to build stronger, more vibrant communities, and ensuring our streets are safe and bright at night is one simple way.”
“An Albanese Labor Government will be the partner Western Australians need in Canberra – working with state and local governments to deliver projects such as the Light Up Perth program.”
The Light Up Perth program includes the following projects:
City of Perth: Lighting upgrades along the Roe Street Footbridge and commissioning of an installation for the annual Festive Light Trail.
City of Stirling: Streetscape upgrades along Beaufort Street in Mount Lawley and Inglewood.
Town of Bassendean: Upgrades to Bassendean Oval’s lights.
City of Bayswater: A city-wide upgrade to the street light network to more energy efficient LEDs.
City of Vincent: LED street lights along Scarborough Beach Road, and lighting improvements at Axford Park.
