Labor to invest in new Jewish Community Centre - MEDIA RELEASE

LABOR TO INVEST IN NEW JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTRE

An Albanese Labor Government will ensure the Jewish Community Centre in Yokine becomes a reality.

With costs skyrocketing through the COVID-19 pandemic, the future of the project, set to include the construction of a dedicated Holocaust Education Centre was uncertain.

Federal Labor will ensure the project is completed, with an additional $100,000 contribution.

When complete, the Jewish Community Centre will include a function centre, community offices, youth centre, day care centre, as well as significant security upgrades to ensure patrons are protected.

Labor Member for Perth Patrick Gorman said the project would give members of Perth’s Jewish community a welcoming place to gather.

“Maccabi WA has developed a strong vision for this precinct, and I am pleased to again show my strong support for this project and for the Jewish community.”

“An Albanese Labor Government will be the partner Western Australians needs in Canberra – working with State and local governments to deliver important community projects such as the Jewish Community Centre” Gorman said.

In Perth to announce the project, Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Andrew Giles said:

“The Jewish community is such an integral part of the thriving multicultural community here in Perth.

“I am proud to be in Perth today to announce this additional funding to ensure that the construction of community spaces, including the Holocaust Education Centre, are able to be completed.

“The team that Anthony Albanese leads understands how important it is to listen to multicultural and multifaith communities, like the Jewish community in Perth, in making sure that Australia continues to be the world’s most successful multicultural society.”
