Media Release: Urgent Need for Mutual Obligation Suspension in Western Australia

Labor is calling on Scott Morrison to urgently suspend Centrelink Mutual Obligation requirements for lockdown-affected areas of Western Australia.

It is currently impossible for people in the Perth metropolitan area, Peel and the South West to comply with their mutual obligation requirements.

Western Australians in these regions cannot currently attend job interviews, training or voluntary work.

They should not be penalised for the Morrison Government’s delay in suspending requirements for job seekers and other payment recipients.

The Morrison Government must follow its own precedent set by the recent Queensland lockdown. It must act quickly.

Australians know that the Government’s delay to introduce JobKeeper caused unnecessary job losses.

Western Australia can’t afford another delay from Scott Morrison
